Khalid Rafeek a Native of Thiruvananthapuram suburbs, spent most his professional life at Abu Dhabi, the capital city of UAE. As an Engineering consultant by profession, he managed to nurture his love and affection towards nature and natural produce despite his busy schedules.
He started fulfilling his attempts to establish the nature farming in 2012, under the principles of Subhash Palekar’s Zero Budget Natural Farming. His farm, which is at the edge of forested valleys of serene Chembra hills of Wayanad, is a perfect setting for organic farming. Having acquired most of his concept from his passion to travel within India and abroad,
He believes in conserving the nature while doing anything in life. It is not only admiring nature, but also doing our bit to conserve nature and minimize damages to nature that occurs in the name of farming.
At his farming venture, named as Tree Fern Nature Farm, he mainly concentrates in producing Coffee, Pepper and Cardamom along with some other minor edible crops. He got the farm organically certified in 2016 after three years of observation period.
Over these years, the only organic manure was Jeevamrutham prepared from native cow's dung and urine at the farm, from which the soil is undergoing a rejuvenation process with the help of countless earthworms and other micro organisms.
His aim is not to produce just organic spices and coffee, He hopes to penetrate into the specialty coffee and spices market. Along with farming he targets conserving nature by planting more native shade trees, stabilizing the bunds with Vetiver, keeping sting-less honey bee hives, and providing nectar source for different butterfly species among other ambitious tasks.
His Coffee and Pepper have already received very good reviews from customers from all over India and abroad. The coffee is reviewed as live, sweet, with a fruity after-tone. The pepper is very pungent, grey green in color when ground and having a raw taste.
Khalid doesn’t believe producing in big quantities, but in super fine quality spices and coffee.
