Elavampadam Rubber Producers Society (ERPS) is a cooperative society of Rubber farmers in and around Elavampadam area that is a part of the Vandazhi Panchayath in Palakkad district of Kerala, India. The society was established to support the rubber producers through innovation and market support. Since its establishment it has quickly grown to be a model RPS and one of the most well known in the country.
ERPS has received numerous awards for being the best RPS in the state. It has continuously supported the development of its members though various initiatives and programmes. One such initiative that has seen tremendous success is the honey farming in the rubber plantations. It has helped the farmers to put their plantations to optimal use and diversify their income source. The rubber farmers were trained on producing honey by planting bee hives amongst the rubber trees in their rubber plantations. The result was sweet natural honey that bought these farmers additional income.
The ERPS quickly became a role model and new its success caught attention of farmers and researchers around the world. Today researchers and student visit the area very often to study the ERPS model.
Various plantations in and around Elavampadam participate in producing honey. They are located in the Western Ghats and often close to the forest areas. So apart from the rubber trees they get their honey from coconut trees and various other flora in the area. The Mangalam River Dam is situated nearby.
