P.K. Madhavan

Madhavan hails from Vadakkancherry Panchayath of Palakkad district in Kerala, India. ​His main occupation is growing Rice. He is a member of the Vadakancherry Jaiva Padashekharam - an association of natural/organic farmers in the Vadakkancherry area, especially of those who farm rice in paddy fields. Known as 'JP' among his friends and colleagues, Jayaprakash also runs a small grocery shop.

  1. Ponni Rice
Madhavan is a hereditary farmer. After completing his higher education he turned to take up farming as a profession. He cultivates and markets his own products including coconuts and vegetables.

He also produces rice and rice products such as rice powder and rice flakes (Avil), especially from the Ponni variety. He is an active member of the Vadakkancherry Padasekhara Samithi and credited for taking the lead role in creating the 'Aswathi Palakaddan Matta' brand of rice under the Samithi and marketing it successfully. He has a loyal following of customers for his products both within and outside Kerala. ​
He is also rears cattle in his farm alongside his agricultural ventures and trading of cattle food. The main varieties of rice that he farms include Ponni, Pounmani, ASD and Jyothi varieties.
