Green Valley Oils was established by a group of Coconut farmers in Irumbakachola (near Kanzhirapuzha in Palakkad District of Kerala, India. At a time when Coconut farmers were struggling to get a fair price for their products in the market, the group focused on producing value added products from coconuts and marketing them. The venture started in the year 2000 with support from the Khadi Commission.
Over the next few years the markets were flooded with commercial coconut oil brands. These usually added preservatives, aroma and even artificial flavors in their products. The ill affects of these products began to show and consumers slowly began to realize the lack of quality and purity. When the concept of unadulterated coconut oil regained popularity in the earlier years of this decade, Green Valley took to producing natural coconut oil to tap this new market. They adapted from selling dried coconut (known as Kopra locally) to processing pure coconut oil.
The high temperatures that occur in the propellers of normal coconut oil processing machines cause the oil to heat up during production. Green Vally introduced a water cooling system that would bring down this temperature and further guarantee the quality of their coconut oil. Their innovative strategies, use of cutting edge technologies and strict standards in following the best practices, have won them the Central Government's REGP award for the Best Small Scale unit.
In addition to the coconuts grown in their farms, Green Valley also collects from other like-minded local farmers to produce pure and natural coconut oil. Green Valley is now known for being the leader when it comes to setting the quality bar as well as for giving the best price to the coconut farmers. Presently they export quality coconut oil to many countries around the world including the UK, USA, Canada, Ukraine and to the gulf states including the UAE.
